Accessibility issues
There were a number of accessibility issues that needed to be looked at while developing the website.
1. Accessibility of the site for colourblind users. I tried to test my site using the various coloublind website filters that are available, howerver, i couldn't get them to work so I am a bit unsure how accessible the site is. I did try out the filter on a website with a similar blue and white colour scheme and it seemed to be okay, but it would need to be checked more thoroughly before being made available to the public.
2. It would have been useful to have buttons on the site which increase the size and colour of the text. I wasn't sure how to do this as I am not familiar with programming language and I couldn't find anything in the Google tools. There are ways of altering he size of the text in your web browser, however, this is not easy for everyone to do especially if someone has a visual impairment. I put instructins on how to do this on the FAQ page, but I could also have done a podcast or YouTube video to explain how it can be done.
3. Ideally, to include all members of the community the website would be translated into other languages such as Polish, Portuguese, Chinese or Nepalese. There wasn't the option to do this using Webnode. Users could translate the page using tools such as Babelfish, but the number of languages is limited and the translation may not be very accurate as it does not understand idioms.
4. I used podcast materials as an alternative to aid those who have problems reading text. I used Voki, which enabled me to use computer generated voices as i didn't have access to a microphone or voice recorder. I would have preferred to record my own materials as the computer generated voice was sometimes difficult to understand as it didn't sound like a natural speaking voice and it also mispronounced words.
5. I have tried to make it easy to find materials by using links to aid those who have difficulty using a mouse. You don't need to click on multiple links to get anywhere.
